Health Workers In Nigeria Begin Nationwide Strike Today


The National President of Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals, Felix Faniran, announced yesterday in Ibadan, Oyo State, that health workers in the country will today, October 16th, begin an indefinite strike.

The organization are striking over sundry issues, including the non-commencement of residency training programme for health professionals, unresolved leadership crisis in the health sector, non-payment of arrears and non-implementation of new call duty allowance.

Faniran also accused the presidency and Health Minister of being behind the crisis rocking the health sector and said they should be held responsible for whatever the effect of the strike might be as they ignored the possibilities of avoiding it.
