A former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Peremobowei Ebebi, and six others were reportedly rescued by local divers and passengers of oncoming boats which stopped to assist the victims.
The incident occurred at about 5pm along the Ekeremor waterways as they were returning back to Yenagoa at the end of the Ward congresses conducted across the state on Saturday.
Three out of the five corpses have been recovered while the search for the remaining continues.
When contacted the Deputy Police Public RaltionsOfficer, ASP Lawrence Eboka, said he has not been briefed about the incident as he was at the home of the President, Goodluck Jonathan on special duty.
