Three Boko Haram Members Sentenced To 25 Years Each

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced three Boko Haram members to 25 years imprisonment each, The Nation reports.

However, journalists were not allowed to cover the judgment.

Only lawyers in the prosecution and defence teams were allowed in court.

A source, who witnessed the verdict, but craved anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, told reporters that the fourth defendant was acquitted.

The court, on December 3 last year, barred journalists from covering the trial of 17 suspected members of the sect.

Justice Ibrahim Buba made the order following an application by the Lagos State Attorney-General and prosecuting counsel, Mr. Ade Ipaye.

Men of the Department of Security Services (DSS) had prevented journalists from covering the suspects’ arraignment last November 27.

The accused are – Ali Mohammed, Adamu Karumi, Ibrahim Usman, Bala Haruna, Idris Ali, Mohammed Murtala, Kadiri Mohammed, Mustapha Daura, Abba Duguri, Sanni Adamu, Danjuma Yahaya, Musa Audu, Mati Daura, Farouk Haruna, Abdullahi Azeez, Ibrahim Bukar and Zula Diani.

The Attorney-General, it was learnt, had entered a nolle prosequi (Latin for “do not prosecute”) in respect of two of the defendants, who were subsequently discharged.

Later, another 11 were also discharged in the course of the trial following another nolle prosequi by the prosecution.

Only four – the first to fourth defendants – went through a full trial.

The suspects were first charged with conspiracy to commit terrorism, illegal possession of firearms, and being members of a proscribed organisation.

They allegedly committed the offences on March 21 last year, at Plot 5, Road 69, Lekki Phase I Housing Estate, and at No. 24, Oyegbeni St., Ijora-Oloye, Apapa-Iganmu, Lagos.

They were alleged to have in their possession three packets of explosive construction pipes, 15 detonators, and 11 AK47 rifles with 30 rounds of live ammunitions.

Two teenage Nigerian girls who were trafficked to Burkina Faso to become sex workers have been rescued.

According to PM News, 16-year-old Rejoice Chioma (center) and 19-year-old Rosemary ‎Uchenna Emmanuel (right) left Nigeria on 11 July with a man who promised to take them to Malaysia via Burkina Faso for a better life.

The trafficker deceived the girls by telling them they would be given new passports and some vaccines in Burkina Faso before proceeding to Malaysia for decent well paid jobs.

But as they arrived the capital of Burkina Faso, Ouagadugu, the trafficker handed them over to a Nigerian woman by name Onome who introduced them to prostitution.

In an interview in Lagos on Tuesday, Rosemary said:

“The madam told us we will have to do ashawo (prostitution) or pay her N1.2 million each to take us back to Nigeria.”

According to her, they refused and explained to the woman that they were on their way to Malaysia and were just making a brief stop in Burkina Faso for new passports and vaccines.

“She invited bad boys to take away to a village ‎on motorcycles,” Rosemary said.

It was at that time they were rescued by some people who called an anti-human trafficking NGO founded by a Nigerian and known in French as Association Nationale de Lutte Contre le Traffic des Jeunes ‎or the National Association Against Trafficking of Young Persons (Lutra – Jeunes).

During the rescue operation, Rosemary said, she was pushed off the bike and sustained injury in her right hand and right leg.

Before embarking on the journey, Rosemary and Rejoice worked at a small restaurant in Port Harcourt away from their families in Imo and Abia States.

They lived together and worked at the same restaurant where they earned about ‎N3,000 a month.
They were there for some months until one day, a man visited the restaurant and told them about the well paid new jobs in Malaysia.

They contributed only N5,000 each and were handed over to the man’s brother who took them on the journey. The journey from Port Harcourt to Burkina Faso ‎lasted about two days.

They were then handed over to the Nigerian woman there who manages at least 30 other Nigerian girls ‎with some as young as 14 years old.

“They were de‎ceived and trafficked from Nigeria with the hope to secure manual work in Malaysia to better their future,” said Ochuko Patrick Otoba, a Nigerian and President of Lutra-Jeunes, the NGO that rescued them and brought them back to Nigeria on Monday after two days on the road.

“But they were surprised to find themselves in Burkina Faso, forced to take up prostitution as they new trade. When they refused, they were maltreated and beaten up with injury of irreparable degree,” he said.

Otoba, a human rights activist, said the number of Nigerian ‎girls who have become victims of human trafficking across the borders of West African countries, especially Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Burkina Faso is on the rise.

“Enslaved, indebted, sold like donkeys, the young victims are between the ages of 14 to 22 and they are deceived by traffickers ‎in Nigeria who are also Nigerians,” he said.

He called on the Nigerian government to embark on serious awareness campaign, rescue other victims in Burkina Faso, build rehabilitation centres to house these victims and begin empowerment projects for rescued victims who are not educated but need skills to get back into the society.

His own NGO, he said, has not received funding from the government, and had been struggling to cope.

Obasanjo Goes Back To School, To Study Christian Theology

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has confirmed he's going back to school to get a higher degree in Christian Theology.

The former president will formally enroll today as a graduate student at the the headquarters of the National Open University of Nigeria in Lagos.

Confirming the news to Premium Times, he said:

“I’m going back to school because I have to have something to aspire to in every endeavour of life, I always aspire to something new in my farm. I do that in my international activities. I do it in my writing. I do it in the improvement of my academic work which helps to sharpen my brain and strengthen my faith.”

When asked has how he would be able to study and cope with his other international engagements, Obasanjo gave credits to the flexibility of the National Open University’s system.

“Fortunately, the Open University is flexible enough and I will definitely be able to cope. I was able to cope when I did the Post Graduate. I was also busy during the period,” he said.

Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor Opens Up On $9.3 Million Arms Deal Scandal [Read]

Despite the heavy criticisms from different bodies and organisations, yesterday was the first time the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, spoke about his involvement in the $9.3 million arms deal.

However, the #BringBackOurGirls# campaign group has said it will sue Oritsejafor and the Federal Government over the money.

In an emergency meeting of the expanded National Executive Council, NEC, which held yesterday in Abuja, the CAN president denied being involved in the arms deal scandal and said it is all a ploy by enemies of Christians to divide the religious association.

“The media has been awash in the past few days about an unfortunate incident involving the movement of funds from Nigeria to South Africa. In the unfortunate news reports, attempts have been made to link me directly with the transaction. So far I have refrained from making any direct public statement pending the time that I would have briefed the leaders of the church and explained my position on the issues to them.

“I believe that the primary institution that I owe any explanation to is the church. Permit me to thank everyone who stood by me these past days by ways of prayers, as well as strongly defending  me even though I have not undertaken any public defence of myself.

“I am particularly appreciative of the valuable support of the Catholic Church in refuting a distorted news item by mischievous elements in the media. I wish to assure you that I will not do anything to tarnish the image of Jesus Christ or compromise the divine standard of the Church.

He however claimed he owns the aircraft.

“At the risk of being seen to be defending myself, I wish to confirm to the distinguished leaders of the church that the Bombardier Challenger 601 aircraft in question is mine.

“The aircraft was presented to me as a gift by members of our congregation and ministry partners world wide at the 40th anniversary of my call into the ministry. May I be permitted to stress that the aircraft was not given to me by the President of Nigeria, neither was it a settlement for any political favour or patronage.

“With the benefit of hindsight, the President of the country was a guest in our church during the anniversary celebration when the Jet was presented to me and this has been construed to imply that it was a gift from the President of the country.

“The President of Nigeria  has nothing to do with the gift of the aircraft. By the way, I still wonder why all those saying this, still cannot come out to show proof so that the matter can be put to rest once and for all. Let me say that this might be an issue of the court in the near future.

“In order to ameliorate the cost of maintenance of the aircraft, I sought and got permit to allow the aircraft fly in and out of Nigeria.

“Based on this, I leased the aircraft on August 2, 2014 to a company to run it. It was the leasee that entered into an agreement with the people who carried out the transfer of funds. Having leased the aircraft to the Green Coast Produce Company Limited, any transaction undertaken with the aircraft can no longer be attached to me.

On enemies staging war against the Church, he said:

“In as much as I am shocked and distressed by the incident, I wish to appeal to Christians in Nigeria to remember that a war has been waged against the Nigerian Church. This war is being fought on many fronts and this unfortunate incident is another dimension in the assault against the Church.

“It is clear that those who manipulated this conspiracy desire to create a schism in the Church. The media hype and the deliberate distortion of information that followed it confirmed that forces that desperately desire to cause division and disunity in the Church are at work. Even the devil knows that a house that is divided cannot stand.

“As Christians, we need unity in the Church now more than ever. We are witnessing inhuman attacks by religious extremists against Christians in the northern part of the country while Christian infrastructure is being destroyed in hundreds.

“If we permit the enemy to divide us, our chances of corporate survival shall be severely threatened.

“Distinguished leaders of the Church, please permit me to state clearly before God and before all of you here present today, I am not a party to the movement of $9.3 million from Nigeria to South Africa to purchase arms and ammunition. I am not part of the deal. I know nothing about it.

“Let me make a passionate appeal to our heads of blocks, heads of denominations and Christian leaders at different levels and spheres of influence to please use your good offices to caution and control your subordinates and followers from making public statements that will further polarise the Church and strengthen the arms of the enemies of the church.

“If I offend you or you offend me, instead of talking to media, let us talk to each other within the house of God.”

The man who designed the Nigeria flag, Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi was decorated as an Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic, OFR, by President Jonathan today September 29th, 55 years after designing the flag.

What President Jonathan did is remarkable as no other president before him recognized Pa Akinkunmi with any honor or award.

Meanwhile, Jonathan also honored his cook, taxi driver and warden.

After a building collapsed in the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, Lagos, church buildings have been collapsing.

One week ago, a building belonging to Christ Chosen Church of God collapsed in Edo state killing three people. Now, another building in the same state has collapsed.

This time, the building is a property of Liberty Power Bible Church a.k.a Power Palace at Asoro Slope, off Ekenwan Road in Benin city, Edo state.

The incident happened yesterday but the good news is that no lives were lost as it happened shortly after members of the church had left the building following the closure of Sunday service.

According to Mr. Ajor Sylvanus,  the owner of the land were the building was built, it collapsed because the foundation was poorly laid.

“The storm that followed the rain was much but I have been complaining about the building structure. The pastor built the church like a fence, no pillar. The block is just ordinary sand. I have been telling him that no pillar would cause the building to collapse. The building fell on my building and damaged many things. I thanked God that nobody died. When the pastor came, he was concerned about the musical instrument in his church and thanked God that his church members were not around when the building fell. I had to call the police. The building has already cracked and I have been warning the pastor that the building will collapse.” Sylvanus said.

Yes, my fellow Nigerians. Quite a number of you smell. Be it body or mouth odour but it has become a threat to social existence in our society because some of you are so selfish and too wicked to bother about personal hygiene. Only money money money una de think? It’s not fair ooooo. Continue below...

Come on people, do you know that the way you smell can even favour or be bad luck to you when you are trying to get employed?

I know of a model that was hot and when the designer asked her to try on the clothes, the minute she took her top off. The designer “change face” and said “you know what, I’ve changed my mind, your agency will get back”.

He then went back to the casting crew and said : WTF? She smells like s***.

This also happens to male models regularly and designers complain. I understand because a friend once borrowed my shirt and I had to turn it to a  rag afterwards. On the other hand, my good friend in Benin borrowed my singlet and it came back smelling of how your box smells when you travel to Jand. Get this, it was unwashed. Now that’s a clean person.

First things first- Armpit/ Body Hair

Nigerians! We live in a temperate region of the world. It’s hot and humid. Male or female , why on earth will you allow your armpit hair grow out?

Do you not know that hair in closed places traps bacteria and builds up gunk that will now smell? Habah now!

With or without antiperspirants, shave your armpit hair. I know some guys that will say oo it’s manly to have hair in your pits. Really??

To choke the babes that you are hugging or dancing with is manly? And you wonder why the girls go home with the metrosexual men more. Smh.

Brosiyeeeeeee. Shave your pits. Nigeria is too hot, plus no matter what you say, hairy armpits are unsightly.And invest in really strong antiperspirants. Abeg, for the sake of your friends and girlfriends. It’s quite embarrassing to tell you but trust me, if you have armpit hair in Nigeria you do smell after a while and people just don’t want to tell you.

Don’t even come with that crap about not being able to afford body sprays. There are very cheap ones if you don’t have enough money. Some go for as little as 150 Naira. No excuses. Buy them and use, I’d rather chill with a local person smelling good cheap than a classy person smelling like carbide.

Body!

Let’s go to the body…this is really controversial. As a woman of course there should not be hair ANYWHERE on your body apart from your head.

Someone shout out – Brazilian Wax. Hahaha kidding.

But even down there ladies, come on. What are you doing with all that bush, abi you wan train hair to make short and curly weavon/wig to sell?? Habah. You know how sensitive that spot is…the more shaved it is, the less likely you are to have odours when you combine with your regular non soap “surface” wash (seeing as it is a self cleaning organ. Hurray!!!)

Now guys. Smh….I remember in the University or was it Secondary School sef. One of my roommates came in and decided to change after classes. Omo the room actually changed when he took off his trousers, Gaddemm!

How do I describe this smell. Like egg wey dem troway inside dustbin and forget take trash out overnight. I was in shock.

Guys, guys, guysss! Stop with this: “It’s not masculine” talk. If you can use a clipper to shave your armpit hair because you will sweat in Nigeria, that body hair will trap odour o!
If you are hairy, please shave your torso. Leave the ones on your legs and arms but please shave every other area. When you travel to cold regions. You can let it grow.

And, pleaseeeee shave you privates o! Our organ ain’t self cleaning o and circumcised or not, if not groomed it will stink. Don’t believe me? If you have an afro wig down there, after a long day scratch and sniff your fingers (like u all normally do) hahahaha.

It’s okay to have very low hair (carpet) on the Pelvic/top area so as not to breed endangered microscopic organisms.

But please use a clipper if you are prone to bumps to carpet this area. But for the sack and the shlong abeeeeg shave clean, you can’t use clippers, else it will cut your life. Use a shaving stick and shaving cream. Luckily with the clipper, you can also shave the inner thighs and the dreaded hind region. Yes I said hind region.

Lol, some of us have a rain forest there. Some people go say “I be man I nor dey use am for anything,” errr you do know that when you have hair there, believe it or not but particles of poo get entangled there unless you have time to shower after every no 2 or use water.

And let’s face it, a lot of people don’t use water or shower after every no 2. And yes it can trap tissue. Do you remember that song in primary school? Craw craw deyyyy for person ny_____ Hahahaha.

One way to also keep that place very clean, is to use very little petroleum jelly on your inner regions/thighs before you wear a fresh pair of boxers daily. Lol, Yes o. Please wear your boxers once and throw it in the laundry. No more 2 days rule. You dey shame as you de read this abi?


Lastly…Mouth Odour

KAI, Kai, Kai, Mbaaanuuuu!


This one is an epidemic. Is it our food? weather? Are people using cheap toothpaste? What is it? If I meet 10 people in a day at least 7 of them have some kind of funny breath.
I have even had friends with pungent mouth odour and it used to freak me out to watch their babes kiss them. I’m like are you kidding me?

Even entertainers! How can you allow your mouth smell? Habah!

I have a friend whose breath smelled like he ate a dead rat in spoilt beans and drank gutter water to wash it down. Kaiii, I’m not exaggerating. This mouth odour had jurisdiction o.No matter how far he was, as long as he was in the same room you would smell it. Torture.And my other friends that were not fond of him would tease him behind. “Uti why dis your guy mouth de bugga”

So I’ll share with you what I smartly suggested to him (without telling him his mouth was smelling) and it worked. Now he dey form big boy, dey do like he always had clean mouth.

Apart from visiting your dentist, Here it goes;

Rule number 1: Abeg, do not use your toothbrush for more than a month. Please buy a new one at the end of every month. That thing is used to remove dirt and bacteria every morning and night. And yes brush twice.

-Use good toothpaste o, fluoride toothpaste. That fights tooth decay, plaque and bacteria,

-Use dental floss. Toothbrushes can’t remove all the particles stuck between your teeth. If you no sabi use floss, YouTube search the instructions.

-Mouth wash was made by geniuses. If you have bad breath trust me you can taste it. So don’t lie to yourselves, there’s no way you will say you don’t know abeg!

-Mouth wash kills bacteria that cause bad breath and also fights plaque. It even helps to clean holes if you have. Use it everyday at least for a while until your breath has been corrected. Then you can use as you like.

-Tongue scrapper/cleaner comes in handy as well. The surface of the tongue is a coven for bacteria because that is what you use to mix the food as you masticate. You need to scrape off the surface and leave it fresh and clean because that thing will smell so bad if you let bacteria thrive.

-During the daytime buy and chew the sugar free healthy mint gums if you go out to socialize. You can’t go wrong!

So that’s it o!! I’ve done my part to help you people o. Don’t say I’m keeping these secrets to myself. LOL!

BREAKING: Lagos State Might Prosecute T.B Joshua

In a statement yesterday by Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, the Lagos State Government has set up a coroner of inquest for the purpose of investigating the cause of the September 12 Synagogue Church of All Nation’s building collapse.

According to Punch, the statement details that Ipaye had instigated the coroner’s inquest pursuant to Section 15 of the Lagos State Coroner’s System Law No. 7 of 2007.

The coroner of inquest, headed by Magistrate O. A. Komolafe, has been charged with the duty of establishing the cause of the collapse of Synagogue’s six-storey building that killed no fewer than 115 persons.

Ipaye, who spelt out the responsibility of the coroner, said its final submission might necessitate the institution of a criminal charge against the church.

The commissioner was quoted to have said:

“The law requires the verdict of a coroner, as certified in writing, to be forwarded to the State Attorney General and such verdict may form the basis of criminal prosecution depending on the evidence collected.

“The coroner in this case is Magistrate O. A. Komolafe, who also sat as coroner in the Dana Air Crash case. He is expected to announce his sitting or visitation schedules and other details and to hold the inquest at the premises of the High Court of Lagos State, Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja.

“In doing this, he (Komolafe) has all the powers of a magistrate to summon and compel the attendance of witnesses, including medical examiners, and require them to give evidence, produce documents or present other relevant materials.” [Source: Punch]

2015: Political Brouhaha As APC's Buhari And Atiku Clash [READ]

It was a political brouhaha last weekend as top presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, were involved in a row over the procedure for picking the 2015 presidential candidate for the party.

At the end of a National Executive Committee, NEC meeting of the party last weekend, the party was unable to forge a consensus on the issue with associates of the major aspirants reportedly holding on to their positions.

According to Vanguard, two of the major presidential aspirants, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, Vanguard learnt were at the head of the major divisions over the adoption of a consensus or the conduct of primaries for the adoption of the presidential candidate. The other major aspirants, notably, Governor Rabiu Kwankwanso of Kano State and Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah are reportedly indifferent.

Yesterday, aides of Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, who is also set to enter the fray were largely mute on the issue, as one said it was too premature to express a position given the fact the governor is yet to formally declare his intention.

Buhari wants consensus candidacy

Party sources disclosed that Buhari’s associates in the party were pushing for consensus on the fact that majority of the party positions across board were filled with consensus. On the other hand, the Buhari supporters are praying that if the consensus arrangement is jettisoned for any reason that a direct primary involving all 18 million registered members of the party be held.

Their point is being strongly opposed by Atiku’s growing supporters within the party hierarchy who say that a direct primary would be unwieldy, costly. Rather, the Atiku camp has proposed what it called a Modified Direct Primary that would involve about 20,000 delegates choosing the party candidate. That prospect is feared by the Buhari camp who claimed that it would offer opportunity to easily woo or take over delegates hitherto pledged to other aspirants.

According to the Buhari supporters, the introduction of full direct primary would limit the prospect of Atiku wooing the delegates unlike a modified primary that could see Atiku and his agents now in the field winning the number of delegates.

“Having carefully examined our great party” the APC constitution, especially Article 20 and the Electoral Act 2010, one comes to the inevitable conclusion that it is better to adopt consensus in electing our candidates for House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governor and presidential candidates and where it fails to adopt direct primary,” a major Buhari supporter in the NEC told selected newsmen last weekend.

“It is on record that more than 80% of the ward, local government area and state congresses which produced the current executives of our great party were conducted through consensual arrangement. And more than 95% of the current National Executive Committee were elected via consensus,” he said

“When one considers the bitterness, rancour and bad blood indirect primary will most likely generate, it becomes safer to work towards a consensual agreement. We must at all times bear in mind that we are being hunted and that those who boasted to rule Nigeria for 60 years uninterrupted, are still hell bent to scuttle the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians for genuine ideological regime change.

“We must take note that our challenger, the ruling party has just announced the nomination of the incumbent President as its candidate by consensus means and they had commenced presidential campaign with vigour and dexterity”.

Atiku at the weekend, however, pledged his determination to abide by any democratic procedure adopted by the party even as he canvassed the advantages of the Modified Direct Primaries.
In an email statement issued to correspondents on the issue by his media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu, the Atiku camp said:

“Our candidate is a democrat. What he is opposed to is any undemocratic process going by the name of consensus, imposition or anointment. Back in the PDP, if you remember, he dragged the party to court and won on these issues with a resounding victory.

Atiku’s camp proposes Modified Direct Primary

“The decision of our campaign to support the Modified Direct Primary is not because of anything but for its practical applicability.

“If you say you want direct primary, how can you get all 18 million registered APC voters to take part?

“That would mean you will be setting up a vote in every polling booth, doing the same thing as INEC is doing. It will be the same thing as a general election.Where do you have the resources, the manpower, the time and the security support for this?”

“Secondly, don’t forget that the figure of the registered members is not a settled issue in many states. There are many places in which it is being disputed. Besides, it keeps changing everyday. New members are coming in and some are also leaving us. How do you deal with this?”

“Those who argue for direct primaries also need to factor in the fact that there is no way you take the process from the hands of governors if you allow it to take place in the states. Genuine fears on the part of some people is that in nearly each state, they may just end up writing the results or where this is not possible, breathe down on the necks of local officials to do as they wish.”

“The Modified Direct Primary cannot on the other hand be faulted as being undemocratic because the delegates coming forward, as proposed, are all elected officials. There is no dispute concerning their status as elected officials. For this reason alone, they are credible because they are representative of their wards. We support it because we believe it is broad enough to make for popular representation.”

“Even at this, 20,000 delegates is still a large number to bring under one roof, considering that even the PDP brings together between four to five thousands delegates only for the their presidential primaries.” [Source: Vanguard]

Suspected Cultists Invade ESUT Hostel, Shoot 3 Students

Three students of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), have been shot by gunmen suspected to be cultists after invading their hostel.

Based on information we have gathered, the students who were shot at the Unique Hostel are currently admitted at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, UNTH, Ituku-Ozalla, Enugu.

It is understood that two of the victims are being severely injured and were being operated upon while medics tried to establish contacts with their families.

Father of the third victim had confirmed that his son was also undergoing surgery as he was shot in the stomach. Bullets were fired into his abdomen and medics were battling to remove them.

Meanwhile, the gunmen are suspected to be cultists which prompted the Enugu State police command to assign secret security service at the hostels where the incident occurred  including other hostels in the campus.

According to Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, the students where able to put up some resistance which resulted in the arrest of one of the gunmen.

“From what we gathered when the gunmen attacked some students at the ESUT Unique Lodge, which is mainly Boys Hostel, there was a stiff resistance by the students who succeeded in arresting one of the gunmen.

“The arrested gunman alerted his armed colleagues who returned to the hostel and began shooting indiscriminately during which three of the students were shot and wounded,” said Amaraizu.
