The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, have decided to reject any sack letters from the federal government.
President Jonathan yesterday fired all resident medical doctors in Nigeria following their on-going strike despite the health crisis rocking the nation.
However, at a media briefing in Abuja which held today, the President of the association, Dr Kayode Obembe demanded President Jonathan to immediately reverse his directive and instructed his association members not to accept any sack letters from the federal government. He also told them not to pick up any temporary appontments.
“For the avoidance of doubt, no medical doctor no matter how hungry, should pick up any locum appointment with the government hospitals as directed by the circular. Any doctor who flouts this directive, does so at his/her own peril,” he said. The association condemned the decision and urged Mr. President to resolve initial misunderstandings with them rather than resorting to punitive measures that will only further aggravate the already deplorable situation.
The association leader also told his members to remain calm and await further directives, urging them not to panic.
According to the association, they will not end it's strike even if President Jonathan reversed the sack decision.
