Nigerian newspaper, The Punch, has threatened to sue its rival newspapers, Vanguard, The SUN and ThisDay for allegedly publishing fake adverts on their newspapers.
According to reports, Punch has given the newspapers a maximum of 5 days to tender an unreserved public apology or face ligitstion.
Cause of the problem:
An anti-Jonathan group known as 'Agents for Collective Transparency' photoshopped the cover pages of Punch newspapers and gave the fake contents to Vanguard, ThisDay and The SUN to publish as adverts. The newspapers published the contents without proper verification thereby making Punch look like the real author of the fake content.
Punch now claims it has affected their image and integrity as the photoshopped headlines were against President Goodluck Jonathan and never did they publish such on their real newspaper meaning, they were all fake stories. Meanwhile, the accused newspapers are yet to respond.
