I woke up this morning to see 6 different messages from my BBM and WhatsApp contacts strongly urging everyone to bath hot water heavily mixed with salt before 5am.
In as much as I immediately checkmated the rumour on the BBM and WhatsApp platforms via BC's, I still feel a need for making a bit of an extensive report to counter the falsified rumour as well as throw more light on the virus.
Now, my questions are:
1). Does the Ebola virus knows what time you have your bath?
2). If salt was a proven cure, why are American scientists and the World Health Organization spending billions to discover a vaccine?
3). It is true that salt heals 'certain' wounds but can it 'shield' one from the Ebola virus?
4). Can you verify the origin of this rumour and how authentic it is?
After asking yourself the above questions, you'll quite agree with me that this is just a boring rumour by a group of people, perhaps business organization trying to take advantage of the alarming Ebola epidemic.
I laughed my brains off this morning when a friend called me to say that after bathing hot, heavily salted water this early morning, he also drank a warm cup of salty water to prevent Ebola, awkward!
Now, let me prove it to you that this 'salt & hot water' rumour originated from illiterates:
- Ebola is worm-like virus so naive people believe since salt kills worms then it should kill Ebola, which is why they started broadcasting this false info.
- Other spiritually derailed people raised the 'bitter-kola' rumour claiming it prevents Ebola since it helps fight poisons and is good biologically.
Ebola is a warm-like deadly virus that destroys the body cells when contacted. It is a severe, often fatal illness. It has killed about 90% of it's total victims. Humans, including primates such as monkeys, gorillas and chimpanzees are vulnerable to the virus.
Once a person becomes infected, the virus can spread to other people through contacts with a victim's blood and other bodily fluids.
A person can also become infected if broken skin comes into contact with a victim’s soiled clothing, bed linen or used needles.
Symptoms of Ebola include the sudden onset of fever, intense weakness, muscle pain, headache and sore throat. These are usually followed by vomiting, diarrhoea, rash, impaired kidney and liver function and internal and external bleeding.
You can’t get Ebola from air, water, or food. A person who has Ebola but has no symptoms can’t spread the disease, either.
Always wash your hands with sanitizers. As long as you don't make contacts with a gravely infected victim, you are fine.
