According to the Indian doctors, their employers have made away with their International Passports to prevent them from leaving the country in a bid to force them to treat dangerous victims of the Ebola virus.

The doctors, who gave their names as Dinesh Kumar, Yogesh Chandra, Kapil Chouhan, Hemant Jingar also said their employers threatened them not to leave their place of work – Primus Hospital in Abuja.

It all started when the doctors disclosed that they would be traveling back to their country as they feared for their lives following the alarming situation of the deadly Ebola virus in Nigeria.

“We haven’t been provided with any security kits. Our passports have been impounded. When we spoke to the Indian high commission, we were asked to come to the mission but we were stopped by guards from leaving the hospital,” said Chouhan.

However, the CEO of Primus Super Speciality Hospital in India, Dr ND Khurana, appeared not to agree with the demands of the four doctors.

Khurana said,
“We are in touch with our Abuja branch. These doctors are afraid of contracting the dreaded disease but it is against medical morality. One doctor has left the service, which will be treated as impropriety,”
But the secretary of the Indian Medical Association, Dr Narendra Saini, disagreed with Khurana, arguing that a doctor has the right to decide if they want to work in a particular country or not.

He also claimed that the Indian doctors were forced to work since Nigerian doctors and nurses were on strike and refused to come out and render their professional service to their country.

Meanwhile, government sources have reportedly said that the doctors have agreed to work for a few more days then leave the country, following the intervention of the Indian mission.
